Zimbabwean cuisine, through a contemporary lens.
In Zimbabwe, PaDen is an informal expression meaning “at home.” It evokes the familiarity of home cooking, the flavors we grew up with and the traditions that shape our relationship with food. Through Kandiro by Kudakwashe and PaDen Chef Kudakwashe Makoni-Chakwana takes this idea and brings it into a contemporary fine-dining setting, offering a considered exploration of Zimbabwean cuisine and its place in modern gastronomy. “The setting, is always exclusive - my home!”
PaDen is a six-course tasting experience dedicated exclusively to contemporary Zimbabwean cuisine. Through indigenous ingredients, traditional foodways and modern culinary techniques, each menu explores the depth and diversity of Zimbabwe’s culinary heritage while presenting it in a refined, contemporary form. Carefully curated wine pairings complement each course, creating a complete dining experience in which food, wine and storytelling work together.
PaDen exists to give Zimbabwean cuisine its own space at the contemporary fine-dining table. It is not a broad Pan-African concept or a reinterpretation of African cuisine as a whole. Its focus is deliberately Zimbabwean: celebrating the country’s ingredients, flavors, culinary traditions and evolving food identity, while demonstrating the creativity and sophistication they can offer.
At its heart, PaDen is about seeing the familiar differently. It takes the essence of home and translates it into an elevated dining experience, honoring the origins of Zimbabwean food while allowing its future to unfold, one course at a time.
